What Does the Bone Grafting Process Involve?
At Southdale Square Dental Centre, the bone grafting process begins with a thorough examination and digital X-rays and/or a 3-dimensional scan to assess the extent of bone loss and create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs. Once the area has been numbed with a local anesthetic, a small incision is made in the gum tissue to access the affected area of the jawbone. The bone is then cleaned and prepared before placing the grafting material.
Once the graft is placed, the gums are repositioned and sutured. The graft acts as a framework to encourage your body’s natural ability to regenerate bone tissue. Mild discomfort, swelling, or bruising may occur after the procedure, but these symptoms are typically manageable with over-the-counter pain medication. In some cases, antibiotics may be prescribed and should be taken exactly as directed. Most patients experience minimal discomfort and heal well when post-operative instructions are carefully followed.
At Southdale Square Dental Centre, our goal is to restore and maintain the foundation of your oral health. If bone grafting is part of your treatment plan, you can count on our experienced team to provide attentive care every step of the way, ensuring a smooth recovery and long-term success.
